A feature introduced several years ago by Canon and Nikon, the two leading camera manufacturers, gives photographers a way to prove, if challenged, that their images have not been manipulated. When a picture is taken, the cameras attach a coded signature that is destroyed if the image is modified and resaved. An intact signature, then, should prove that a photo is genuine. But researchers at ElcomSoft, a computer-security firm based in Moscow, have shown that the system is easily fooled. Counterfeiters can copy an image’s security signature and reapply it after retouching, says Vladimir Katalov, ElcomSoft’s boss.

При производстве судебных компьютерных экспертиз по исследованию устройств фирмы Apple в 2012 году был получен положительный результат, положительный опыт направлен в регионы России.

Elcomsoft’s Forensic Disk Decryptor works well if you can get your hands on a memory dump or hibernation file. All attack forms require local access to the system. It can be a useful tool if you forgot the master key and desperately need access to your data. While it is quite expensive, it costs €299, it may be your best hope of retrieving the key, provided that you are using hibernation or have a memory dump file that you have created while the container or disk were mounted on the system. Before you make a purchase, run the trial version to see if it can detect the keys.

Инструмент, который подошел бы полицейскому, разрабатывается, к примеру, московской компанией «Элкомсофт». Он называется Elcomsoft iOS Forensic Toolkit и представляет собой специализированное ПО для криминалистического исследования устройств на основе Apple iOS. С помощью программы можно извлечь все содержимое памяти телефона, а это и переписка, и коммуникации в социальных сетях, и даже полная история действий пользователя, сопровождаемая – видимо, специально для удобства спецслужб – информацией о точном местоположении пользователя, определяемой датчиками GPS или вычисляемой по силе сигнала ближайших сот. Более того, с помощью iOS Forensic Toolkit можно восстановить оригинальный пароль пользователя на включение телефона, что открывает полный доступ к так называемым секретам устройства – информации, находящейся в специальном зашифрованном хранилище.

Kryptographie-Systeme sollen einen erhöhten Schutz vor unerlaubten Zugriffen auf Festplatten ermöglichen. Das russische Unternehmen Elcomsoft bietet allerdings nun ein Tool an, das sämtliche gängigen Verfahren, wie Bitlocker, PGP oder Truecrypt umgeht. Laut den Aussagen des Herstellers kann Elcomsoft Forensic Disk Decryptor (EFDD) ein einzelnes Laufwerk entschlüsseln oder mounten sowie in Echtzeit auf kodierte Daten zugreifen. Der Hersteller bewirbt sein Programm sogar damit, dass es keine Spuren hinterlassen soll. Damit dürften sich wohl insbesondere Geheimdienste und Ermittlungsbehörden als Interessenten auftun.
