Typically, Microsoft Outlook Express stores all passwords encrypted in the system's Protected Storage, in other Registry areas, or in a special set of credentials files oh the disk. In rare cases, some passwords may not be displayed correctly. The following Password Storage Types table will help you troubleshooting the issue.
| PS | Password is successfully retrieved and stored in еру Protected Storage. |
| OL | Password is successfully retrieved and stored in еру system Registry using a legacy weak encryption algorithm. |
| O97 | Outlook 97; password is stored with MAPI. |
| NP | Password not found in the Protected Storage. In some cases it indicates that the user name is used as a password, or the Protected Storage subsystem is damaged. |
| UN | Unknown Password Storage Type. Can mean an unsupported version of Outlook Express, or damaged system Registry. |
| ER | Error retrieving the password. |
| NR | Password not retrieved. Not enough privileges to unlock the Protected Storage, or the Protected Storage is not installed on the computer. |
| NO | Password for this account is missing. |
| WM | Windows Mail |
| WLM | Windows Live Mail |
If Storage Type is "UN", "ER" or "NR", please send your debug log (see Options) to ElcomSoft support.
